A consortium is building the world's first cultured meat farm in the Netherlands, marking an important step toward commercial production.

The project is co-funded by EIT Food and has already received its first €2 million in funding. This groundbreaking development will enable farmers to diversify their businesses with cultured meat technology, reducing water consumption by 78%, land use by 95%, and societal costs by 56%.

"This is the first attempt worldwide to combine cell-based and traditional agriculture. The goal is to offer consumers the best of both worlds. The project is developing a business model that is completely new on the one hand and rooted in centuries-old agricultural traditions on the other. For farmers, it also offers new perspectives on agriculture as we know it. Mosa Meat has supported this project from the outset and is happy to share our knowledge and experience of all stages of this revolutionary technology," says Peter Verstrate, co-founder and COO of Mosa Meat BV.

“The current consumption of animal products is not sustainable within the carrying capacity of our planet. We need to find other ways to produce food, with as little impact as possible on animals, people, and the climate, and with prospects for farmers. That's where the cultured meat farm comes in,” says Ruud Zanders, co-founder of Kipster and RespectFarms.

The CRAFT consortium consists of RespectFarms, Wageningen University & Research, Mosa Meat, Aleph Farms, Multus, Kipster, and Royal Kuijpers.
