The Protein Brewery raises €30 million to market its fungi-based ingredients. The money will be used for commercial rollout, expansion of the production site in Breda, and further development of the innovation platform.
Tasteless and odorless
Fermotein® is a high-quality protein and fiber ingredient that can be used tasteless and odorless in baked goods, dairy alternatives, and sports nutrition, among other things. Thanks to a patented fermentation process, production is less capital-intensive than many other alternative proteins, making upscaling more cost-efficient.
The first commercial applications will start soon in the US; introduction in the EU and UK will follow once the approval processes have been completed. The scale-up is also expanding its activities in Singapore.
Investment is a springboard
CEO Thijs Bosch calls the investment a springboard: “With Fermotein®, we are not just offering a protein, but redefining the way food is made: nutritious, sustainable, and scalable at lower costs. All the building blocks are in place; we are ready to accelerate.”
New investors Invest-NL and the Brabant Development Agency (BOM) have joined existing shareholders Novo Holdings, Unovis Asset Management, and Madeli.
30 professionals
The Protein Brewery has a broad toolbox at its disposal, including molecular biology, fermentation, analytical instruments, and downstream processing technologies. Its headquarters are located in Breda, the Netherlands, where a team of more than 30 professionals works.
