In a power plant, Planetpod presented its final AI home battery production model to customers. With this unveiling, the Utrecht-based startup has begun producing the first units in the Netherlands. The first hundred users will receive their home batteries starting this summer. Brothers Roel (30) and Maurice van der Ende (27) want their invention to offer a solution for solar panel owners affected by the abolition of the net metering scheme.
The most compact home battery on the market
After two and a half years of development, the young entrepreneurs presented their production model live to an audience from across the country. “Our smart home battery must be accessible to all households, both small and large. Thanks to highly energy-dense battery cells, a built-in inverter, and innovations, this is the most compact home battery per kWh of storage capacity on the market,” says Roel. According to the startup, another focus is interaction with the product: “It's important that people start using more of their own solar energy. To encourage this, the ‘Powerbar’ communicates when our AI model detects that the battery is storing solar energy or supplying energy to the home. Users can literally look inside via the ‘Nerd view,’” explains Maurice.
Entirely developed and produced in the Netherlands
The company has started production of the home batteries, which takes place entirely in the Netherlands. Thanks to the local production process, customers have been involved in the development from the start, ensuring that specific wishes have been incorporated into the end product.
Quick installation by local installers
The first customers will receive their home batteries in the summer. “Together with local installers, our home battery is easy to install thanks to the ‘Plug & Play mounting system’. This has the advantage that installation is completed in an hour and the installation costs for the customer are significantly lower,” says Maurice. With the discount and VAT refund, the Planetpod costs €5,590, and it is expected to save around €1,000 per year through energy trading. The Utrecht-based start-up aims to take a leading role in the rapidly growing European market for home batteries in the coming years.
