PATS, a Dutch agri-tech company, has secured €2.7 million in seed funding to accelerate the development of its innovative pest control technologies. PATS' solutions, including real-time pest tracking and predictive analytics, aim to simplify and enhance the reliability of pest management for growers, while reducing their reliance on pesticides. The company's modular platform can deliver over 1,000 sensor systems monthly from its facilities in the Netherlands and has already been installed in 25 countries worldwide.
Founded in 2018, PATS emerged from Delft University of Technology, established by drone, vision, and AI specialists. The company's genesis came from a relatable problem: the founders, Bram Tijmons, his brother Sjoerd Tijmons, and Kevin van Hecke, were kept awake by mosquitoes. This led them to develop a platform that integrates cameras, sensors, and AI algorithms to detect and track insects in greenhouses, providing growers with actionable insights for better pest management.
Bram Tijmons, CEO of PATS, previously encapsulated the grower's perspective: "For growers, insects are just a nuisance, like mice at home. If you could choose, you would not have them". PATS' technology was initially tested with Gerbera Daisy growers who were struggling with a moth infestation.
PATS future plans
The capital infusion will be strategically allocated to several key areas. A primary focus will be on accelerating the development of PATS' smart pest management solutions. This includes refining existing technologies like PATS-C, which offers real-time tracking of flying pests, and Trap-Eye™, which monitors insect activity on sticky traps. Additionally, PATS will use the funds to expand its solutions offering and broaden its international footprint. The company already delivers over 1,000 sensor systems monthly from its facilities in Delft. PATS is also planning to integrate drones into its system to catch insects before they spread pests. The company's product suite also includes PATS-Vinder and PATS-Kalendar, which predict pest outbreaks and support intervention planning.
The investment comes as PATS targets a rapidly expanding market for smart pest management solutions, which is projected to exceed €2 billion by 2030. PATS aims to replace pesticides by enabling precise monitoring and intervention that supports biological control strategies, thus promoting more sustainable greenhouse environments.
