NOWOS, a Dutch battery repair and maintenance company, has successfully raised €6 million in equity funding to expand its operations across Europe. Backed by Impact Venture Fund Shift4Good, NOWOS aims to address sustainability in micromobility by extending the lifespan of batteries, thus reducing waste and resource use.
The company offers a wide array of solutions to expand lithium-ion battery life. By repairing, providing maintenance, and second-life solutions, NOWOS partnered up with micromobility companies–such as Swapfiets and Felix. Having facilities in the Netherlands, France, and the UK, it offers its services across Europe.

Expanding horizons with strategic funding
This funding not only bolsters NOWOS's current operations but also fuels its ambitious plans to broaden its horizons. The firm intends to escalate its battery repair services across Europe, a mission central to cultivating sustainability within the burgeoning micromobility industry.
This funding will fuel their mission to scale repair operations into new sectors such as drones and medical devices, while developing innovative solutions like a Battery Passport system. With plans to open new repair hubs in Poland and Germany, Nowos is poised to meet the rising demand for eco-friendly battery solutions.
The Battery Passport system aims to provide transparent tracking and enhance lifecycle management, ensuring batteries are optimally maintained and recycled. Such innovation is also pivotal for NOWOS’s plans to refine its repair protocols to cater to more battery types and applications.
Addressing environmental challenges
Alix Armour, Nowos's Chief Impact Officer, emphasizes the environmental imperative of their mission: “Without circularity, micromobility risks becoming another disposable industry.” Given the high environmental and resource costs associated with battery production and disposal, Nowos's commitment to repair over replacement not only extends battery life but also aligns with EU objectives for material recovery by 2030.”
