Neways Electronics, a global innovator in mission-critical electronics, anticipates strong growth in its defense-related activities in the short term. The Eindhoven-based company is poised to leverage its expertise and industrial capabilities to enhance the Dutch defense ecosystem.
Last week, the Dutch Ministries of Defense and Economic Affairs published the “Defense Strategy for Industry and Innovation 2025-2029.” In response, Neways stated that it welcomes the government's approach and ambitions, and is publicly committed to implementing this plan to help realize a “Defense Technological Industrial Base” (NLDTIB) in the Netherlands.
Neways has been active in the defense sector for decades, with customers including BAE Systems, Kongsberg Defence Systems (KNDS), Rheinmetall, Saab, and Thales. Neways' production footprint extends across the Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Malaysia, among other countries. With a wide range of innovations in aerospace, unmanned systems, ground-based systems, communication equipment, and advanced radar systems, Neways can make an immediate contribution to this NLDTIB.
Defense & Mobility
Due to the expected growth in defense activities, Neways is renaming its Smart Mobility business unit to Defense & Mobility. Neways' defense activities already contribute substantially to the 2025 revenue and are expected to grow to several hundred million euros in the years to come. To respond to customer requests as quickly as possible and scale up new production rapidly, Neways has established a task force led by Michiel van der Maat, the commercial director and former vice-chairman of the Dutch Industry for Defense and Security (NIDV), who has also held various defense-related roles at Fokker Technologies. According to the company, Neways' facilities have the capacity needed to scale up production lines quickly.
Hans Büthker, CEO of Neways Electronics: “We are proud that, as a Dutch company, we can make a leading contribution to realizing the ambitions now laid down in the Defense Strategy for Industry and Innovation. In recent months, we have held discussions with the Ministry of Defense, as well as with partner companies. The urgency is great, and Neways wants to help where it can.” According to Büthker, there is a great need for an effective and comprehensive Dutch and European defense industry. “To rapidly scale up the Dutch defense ecosystem, we are connecting with key market players, the Ministry of Defense, and government agencies. We believe that we are uniquely positioned to be the leading electronics supplier in the defense sector in the Netherlands and in the other countries that Neways serves.”
