Netherlands and Arizona strengthen ties in semiconductor industry

The Netherlands and Arizona have signed an agreement to strengthen the semiconductor industry, focusing on innovation and talent development. A Netherlands Business Support Office opens in Phoenix.
Strategic cooperation in Silicon Desert
Economic Affairs Minister Beljaarts and Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs signed the agreement yesterday in Phoenix. The collaboration focuses on innovation, talent development, and accelerating market introductions in the semiconductor industry. The move comes strategically, as trade between the Netherlands and Phoenix grew 34% between 2020 and 2024, with Arizona now exporting more than $1 billion to the Netherlands.
Support for Dutch businesses
The new Netherlands Business Support Office in Phoenix will help Dutch companies looking to invest in the region, also known as Silicon Desert. This development dovetails perfectly with recent investments in the Dutch chip industry, such as the new ChipNL Competence Centre, which will receive €12 million in European support over the next four years. 'The ties we are forging here in Arizona today strengthen transatlantic cooperation and therefore lay a solid foundation for sustainable growth and innovation,' said Minister Beljaarts.

This cooperation is a strategic move in light of rising geopolitical tensions and growing demand for advanced technology. Governor Hobbs emphasized, “This MOU and the new Netherlands Business Support Office in Arizona will further our important partnership and open new doors for collaboration.
