After four months of declining figures, the number of new cars sold in the Netherlands rose again in May, including the number of electric models. This was announced by industry organizations RAI Vereniging, BOVAG, and RDC. However, Tesla sales continue to lag behind.
A total of 30,188 new passenger cars were registered, more than 7 percent more than in May 2024. Of the May registrations, 10,440 cars were fully electric, 8.0 percent more than a year earlier; their market share stood at 34.6 percent. Despite the increase in sales of fully electric cars, Tesla continues to lag behind. In May, 1,057 Teslas were registered, compared to 1,660 in the same month last year.
In May, hybrid cars were once again the most popular in the Netherlands, accounting for more than 49 percent of the market. Fully electric cars followed with a share of almost 35 percent. Kia topped the list as the most registered brand, followed by Škoda and Toyota.
