IO’s event calendar: October

There are countless events and lectures organized for innovation professionals every year. Can’t see the forest for the trees anymore? Or do you need some inspiration? Good news! Every month, IO provides you with an overview of exciting events for that period. Whether you are interested in artificial intelligence, sustainability, or healthcare, there is something for everyone. We group them by region.

Southern Netherlands

1. TU/e is participating in the Weekend of Science together with the NWO energy research institute DIFFER. On October 5, between 12:00 and 17:00, come to the DIFFER building (De Zaale 20) on the TU/e campus and immerse yourself in the energy of the future.DIFFER zooms in on the sun this day, attends lectures, does experiments, attends programming workshops, and crafts a tasty donut. With lifelike robots, the institute links to AI and robotics and how they will play a role in future research.
1. The interest in and supply of hydrogen solutions is still growing. But where is hydrogen really promising within the energy transition and where is it more difficult to apply? To give entrepreneurs and initiatives in the field of hydrogen the opportunity to present their visions and solutions within the broader context of possible transition paths, there's the tird edition of the Dutch Hydrogen Days.
1. Dutch Design Week 2024 presents the future of design and new schools of thought. From 19 to 27 October, the design city Eindhoven will transform into an international hub for new ideas and much-needed change for a better future. Get a first glimpse of the program here.

Northern Netherlands

1. At the Beurs square in Leeuwarden, scientists show what science can do. Learn how viruses and bacteria are simultaneously your friend and your enemy. Bike a smoothie together. Or enter the world of science with science journalist Diederik Brekel. When you stand on the scales, you see how many kilos you weigh. But what exactly is a kilo, and why doesn't a kilo weigh something else?
1. What does a dead star sound like? How do you make invisible light visible? How does a black hole work? Why can you use a radio telescope to look back in time? Visitors will discover all these and many more interesting things during our open day on Sunday, October 6. Doors will be open from noon to 4 p.m., entrance is free.
1. On Oct. 22, entrepreneurs can delve into digitization and cybersecurity while learning about EDIH NN's services and training. Networking with other entrepreneurs and specialists and finding practical solutions to digital challenges are the focus of this day. There will also be an open market where visitors can get straight to work with the tools and advice their business needs to be ready for the future.

Eastern Netherlands

1. Cycling usually seems self-evident, but did you know that it is in fact a continuous balancing act on an extremely wobbly thing? Bicycle professor dr. Arend Schwab (TU Delft) has a bicycle lab in which he studies the mechanics and dynamics of cycling. He will explain that, when driving a bike, you’re constantly almost falling. Your handlebars are crucial in preventing this. What forces are acting on your bike while riding straight ahead and what happens when you take a turn? For the fast cycling devils among us: what’s the best way to position your body in a curve at high speed?
1. Extreme weather events, natural disasters, climate mitigation and adaptation failure, and water crises are some of the most likely and impactful current risks. The availability of water for agriculture is at risk due to climate change. Globally, we see more and more droughts and floods threatening our food production. This day is intended to be an inspirational event where the university will provide an inside look at two water tech companies and several current water projects.

Western Netherlands

1. This 9-day space extravaganza includes unique experiences and events on exclusive locations in The Netherlands. Together with the entire Dutch space sector, NL Space Week demystifies space by opening its doors for everyone. The aim is to connect people, knowledge, talent and money across sectors to help visitors uncover space and its endless possibilities. From investors and policy makers to business and the public: there is space for everyone.
1. This weekend is the national festival for young and old, featuring scientists, experiments, and inspiring discoveries. Science is everywhere and always around us, sometimes without realizing it. However, how much do we know about the science behind our daily lives?On Saturday, October 5, student teams from the four Universities of Technology (TUs) will be at Marineterrein Amsterdam with their vehicles, demos, and workshops. With their innovations, the 4TU student teams will show how much fun technology is and what solutions they are working on to make our world healthier, greener, and safer.
1. The TU Delft and NXTGEN Hightech are organizing a unique global event on systems engineering on October 8 and 9, 2024. The Systems Workforce Summit will take place at TU Delft and will address the future needs of the Systems Engineering discipline. This summit will bring together industrial, academic, and professional organizations, as well as government agencies, to formulate a call for action that could mitigate the shortage of a well-educated and trained systems workforce in the medium term.
