Biotech company Mevaldi has completed an investment round. This investment will enable Mevaldi to further scale up its breakthrough technology. Mevaldi is working on the development of an innovative, bio-based building block for high-quality applications in coatings, adhesives, elastomers, and other areas.

The exact amount raised by the company is not known. Investment partners are: High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) and ICIG Ventures, the venture capital investment arm of International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG).

Mevaldi is a biotech company and a pioneer in the field of building blocks for sustainable polymers and polyurethanes made from natural biological raw materials. Since its foundation in 2020, Mevaldi has been working on the development of 3MPD: an innovative, bio-based building block for high-quality applications in coatings, adhesives, elastomers, and other areas. Unlike fossil-based variants, Mevaldi produces 3MPD from renewable raw materials using a patented hybrid bio-thermocatalytic process. For example, they use sugar to make sneaker soles and sawdust as a basis for insulation material for residential construction.

The result: high-quality material properties, a lower environmental impact, and a competitive price. In addition, the production chain takes place entirely within Europe, using ICIG's existing flexible production facilities, without dependence on supplies from other parts of the world.

This financing round follows the recent award of EU funding from the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBEJU) program and marks the beginning of a new growth phase for Mevaldi. With this investment, Mevaldi can make the transition from pilot to demonstration scale. Mevaldi will also focus on the commercialization of another product: an innovative building block for sustainable polyesters and polyurethanes in coatings, adhesives, elastomers, and other applications.
