SkinVision, a global skin cancer app headquartered in the Netherlands, has obtained IIa certification under the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR). This certification applies to all medical devices in the EU, from CT scanners to syringes. SkinVision can be downloaded to your phone, allowing you to check your skin yourself anytime, anywhere.

One in six Dutch people will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. This is a worrying statistic, but there is also good news. This form of cancer can often be treated effectively if detected early. More and more apps and devices with integrated AI, for both consumers and clinics, are helping to achieve this.

The SkinVision app combines AI technology with dermatological expertise to quickly and accurately assess suspicious skin spots. The algorithm distinguishes between benign and potentially malignant spots and provides users with a reliable risk indication.

Collaboration with Erasmus MC

To be certified under one of the world's strictest medical standards (EU MDR Class IIa), SkinVision had to clearly demonstrate that it serves a medical purpose: detecting skin cancer risk through photos taken with the user's mobile phone. Over the past five years, the app has worked closely with Erasmus MC in Rotterdam.
