Dutch company Orange Quantum Systems (OrangeQS) has completed an oversubscribed €12 million seed round - the most significant seed investment to date in the booming Dutch quantum computing sector. The investment round was led by Icecat Capital, with support from Cottonwood Technology Fund, QBeat Ventures, QDNL Participations, and InnovationQuarter Capital. Orange QS previously raised an investment from InnovationQuarter Capital to transition from a prototype to an industrial application.
Quantum computing is developing rapidly. As the underlying chips become more complex, a significant challenge arises: the need for scalable, accurate, and cost-effective testing of quantum chips. OrangeQS is responding to this by offering a product portfolio that streamlines quantum testing processes across the entire value chain. The startup develops advanced solutions for automated testing and characterization of quantum chips, enabling the transition from lab prototypes to industrial quantum computers. Based in Delft, the company is building on deep academic roots and technical knowledge to serve the global quantum ecosystem.
Quantum testing at industrial scale
OrangeQS' flagship product OrangeQS MAX sets new standards for large-scale testing of quantum chips. IQM will use the system in Espoo, Finland, to accelerate the development of quantum chips.
OrangeQS FLEX provides customized testing solutions for academic and industrial R&D teams. It is used by research institutes at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany) and the University of Naples (Italy), among others.
In addition, R&D labs such as the Advanced Quantum Testbed at Berkeley Lab (USA), Chalmers Next Labs (Sweden), and QuTech (Netherlands) are testing OrangeQS Juice. This open-source operating system enables users to manage their entire research setup seamlessly within a single platform.
Driving exponential growth in quantum chip production
With the funding, OrangeQS will invest in developing even faster test machines that can check quantum chips in days instead of weeks. By eliminating this bottleneck, the company will help leading chip manufacturers double the number of reliable quantum bits (“qubits”) every few years, enabling a quantum variant of Moore's Law.
Garret Alberts, ceo of OrangeQS: "This round of funding not only confirms the critical importance of our technology, but also allows us to accelerate our product development. This will allow us to deliver the test solutions essential to the emerging quantum industry on its way to building powerful computers that benefit society."
