Everything new is wildly interesting! That's the motto of our DATA+ expert, Elcke Vels. She writes stories about AI and how it affects our society, has a series on cyber security, and interviews Dutch innovation maestros. In her “What if...” column, she also explores intriguing scenarios that deviate from the status quo.

Starting today, some 50 Dutch startups are shining in Las Vegas. They are participating in CES: the largest tech fair in the world. As many now know, AI is an emerging technology with enormous potential. Not surprisingly, then, several Dutch AI startups are presenting their groundbreaking solutions at the fair. We highlight three notable examples.

Detecting Deepfakes

Eight out of ten people cannot recognize a deepfake. Yet we encounter them more and more in our daily lives. It is only a matter of time before video calls, for example, pose risks, since you cannot always be sure who is actually on the other end of the line. For businesses, the implications of falling for deepfakes are particularly significant.

Startup Cyberette offers a solution by scanning video, audio, image, and text with high precision and speed: all with the help of AI. The accuracy is about 99.7%. The company helps media, fintech, governments, and businesses, among others, spot disinformation and fraud by detecting AI-manipulated content.

Automated drive-thru

Vox AI automates drive-thrus using AI. The startup has designed an AI that conducts natural conversations in more than 35 languages. This is needed; Current AI technology for drive-thru restaurants for placing orders is often inefficient. Response times are slow, order accuracy is low and there is often a disconnect because the artificial voice often sounds unintelligible on the other end of the speaker. Vox AI breaks through these limitations.

Detecting a leak at lightning speed

As factories age, corrosion becomes an increasing problem. CUI, in particular, is a headache, because this form of corrosion develops under insulation - and is therefore invisible. It has also been called the “silent killer” of the process industry. Its consequences can be very serious - think safety or unwanted leaks.

Senergetics tackles this challenge in the process industry by monitoring leaks, among other things. The startup does this with smart sensors for continuous monitoring and AI-driven analytics. The Real-Time Leak Detection (RTL) system continuously monitors leaks and sends instant alerts to address problems before they escalate. This prevents costly failures, unplanned downtime, and accidents, while also contributing to a more sustainable future.
