Five business associations and grid operator TenneT are urgently calling on the Dutch House of Representatives to make quick decisions on additional offshore wind farms and to make the industry more sustainable. Now that the cabinet has fallen, they fear that important decisions will be put on the back burner. This would be disastrous for the progress of the energy transition and could lead to industries looking elsewhere, they say in a letter to the House of Representatives.
TenneT, the employers' organization VNO-NCW, and industry associations Energie Nederland, Netbeheer Nederland, NedZero, and the Association for Energy, Environment, and Water (VEMW) sent the letter together. The organizations are making several concrete proposals that, in their view, should be included in the 2026 budget.
The organizations are asking for financial guarantees for offshore wind projects in the coming years, the connection of new wind farms to existing infrastructure, and a reduction in energy costs to bring them in line with those in Germany and Belgium.
The Dutch government has scrapped all subsidies and discounts on net tariffs, while tariffs have risen sharply compared to neighboring countries. This has disrupted the European level playing field and threatens to put Dutch industry at a disadvantage.
