A brand-new medtech and biotech innovation center has officially opened at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven. During the festive gathering, the name of the center was also revealed: Cureon.
The innovation center brings together research, technology, and entrepreneurship. Young and growing companies are given the opportunity to bring healthcare innovations into practice more quickly. It offers advanced shared workspaces and 400 m² of GMP-compliant cleanroom and laboratory facilities. The building has a rich history. It was previously used by Philips as a research facility.
The new center of the High Tech Campus was developed in collaboration with the Smart BioMaterials Consortium (SBMC), with support from Brainport Development and the Brabant Development Agency (BOM).
From lab to patient
Jan Rietsema, director of the Smart Bio Materials Consortium (SBMC), spoke about the four cleanrooms that will be made available to companies in the innovation center. Companies can use these, for example, to scale up their therapies and medical technologies. “This means they don't have to make huge investments, while still taking steps towards clinical application.”
The first user of such a cleanroom was officially unveiled during the opening: StentIt, a startup on the High Tech Campus that is working on an implant. This implant, a bioresorbable device, helps patients with severe problems with blood flow to the foot. The company will use the cleanrooms to scale up technology for clinical studies.
Chromodynamics, like many other start-ups, can also be found in the building. The company, which develops multispectral cameras that show the composition of materials in real time, has its office here and will use the laboratories for histological research. During the opening, the company said in its presentation: “We started as a tech startup, but are now focusing more and more on the biomedical side. It's great to have all the biomedical knowledge and the many parties that focus on it close by.”
Brabant is strong in biotech and medtech
Martijn van Gruijthuijsen, deputy of the Province of North Brabant, emphasized the importance of the new center for the region. “Brabant is not only strong in deep tech and semicon, but also in biotech and medtech. That should become more visible in the region. That is why we are very happy with this new center.”
A wide range of companies
Quirine Verstappen, medtech program manager at Brainport Development, emphasized the diversity of parties coming together in the innovation center. “The names on the facade reflect that diversity.” Here you will find a wide range of companies, active in areas ranging from precision systems to AI for diagnostics. "It's great to see all that expertise coming together in one place. "
