At a time when ESG reporting seems outdated, BeSirius is leaping forward with an investment of 3 million euros. This start-up relieves large companies of the need to use spreadsheets by taking an innovative approach to sustainability data, in which data functions as a strategic management tool. Last year, the European Commission put the brakes on mandatory sustainability reports, but BeSirius sees opportunities in the niche use of relevant data. Climate company BeSirius is expanding further, with a focus on the development of 'Sustainability Twins', and is working with giants such as ArcelorMittal.

Strategic approach from Amsterdam

BeSirius is an Amsterdam-based start-up that is breaking new ground in the world of sustainability data with its €3 million investment. The capital injection, which comes from the German fund NAP (formerly Cavalry Ventures) among others, will enable BeSirius to accelerate its product development and expand its team with experts in the field of AI and sustainability. The focus is on creating a dynamic, customized system that provides practical and therefore business-critical data instead of meeting uniform reporting requirements.

CEO Anastasia Kuskova told MT Sprout that traditional ESG, as is customary in the reporting world, is dead. This actually offers new opportunities, since the emphasis now lies on data that is relevant to specific companies and their stakeholders. The idea is to free this data from the rigid structure of spreadsheets. Kuskova emphasizes that this innovative approach saves time and therefore money, up to 30% less working time for their sustainability teams.

Creating value with sustainability

Startup BeSirius does not see sustainability as a burden, but as an engine for value creation. The current weakening of European sustainability reporting requirements means that companies have more freedom to act proactively with their sustainability data. BeSirius' platform is designed to convert this data into a 'Sustainability Twin', enabling companies to make better strategic decisions. This helps them not only to comply with standards, but also to strengthen their market position.

Future of sustainability data

With the next round of investment—a larger Series A — BeSirius aims to disrupt the market and prove that its innovative approach is superior. The company's ambitions to generate significant revenue by 2026 show that it is ready to grow faster than the market. This strategy marks an aggressive step forward in an industry struggling to find the connecting role between sustainability and business results.

It is CEO Kuskova's vision that every company has a 'sustainability twin', where data is readily available and can be utilized without delay. This concept contributes to transparency and efficiency and enables agencies to respond adequately to dynamic market conditions. BeSirius' focus on transforming how sustainability data is managed and used puts the company in a unique position to take the lead in the shift towards more data-driven sustainability.
