More and more ASML suppliers are relocating their operations to Asia. They expect ASML to start building machines there in the future as well. They are focusing primarily on Malaysia and Singapore.
Several sources report that ASML plans to assemble certain machines not only in Veldhoven, but also in Southeast Asia, according to Eindhovens Dagblad. This concerns the ‘dry’ chip machines that use deep ultraviolet (DUV) light. These are the standard models, as opposed to the most advanced machines with extreme ultraviolet (EUV) technology, which ASML is the only supplier of worldwide.
Supplier Hittech relocates production
One of the suppliers that is already relocating is Hittech. Eric Driessen, Chief Executive Officer at the company, reports that the transfer of production has already started. Parts that were previously made in the Netherlands will soon be made in Malaysia.
Frank Mulders, director of supplier AAE in Helmond, also says that the move to Asia has been known among suppliers for some time. ASML has not confirmed to ED whether it also wants to set up assembly activities in Southeast Asia.
Cheaper production
With additional assembly capacity in Southeast Asia, ASML is securing a second production line. In addition, production costs abroad are considerably lower.
