The Ghent-based medtech startup Nuclivision has raised €5 million from investors, including LUMO Labs, Heran Partners, and the imec.istart future fund. They will use the funding for the commercial rollout of an AI software platform that enables faster, safer, and more affordable medical imaging based on PET scans.

PET (positron emission tomography) is an imaging technique that makes it possible to visualize physiological processes, such as the energy consumption of cells, and any abnormalities. However, the radiotracers used involve costs and radiation risks, which currently limit accessibility.

Nuclivision's software makes it possible to perform scans with less radiation and in less time, without compromising image quality. This represents a breakthrough for the use of medical imaging in the early detection and treatment of cancer and Alzheimer's disease.

Medical imaging: a turning point

“Medical imaging is at a turning point,” says Nuclivision CEO Maarten Larmuseau. According to him, the use of AI and smart software is necessary to meet the increased demand for PET and SPECT scans for conditions such as cancer and Alzheimer's disease.

With its software, Nuclivision wants to improve the quality of care and address a crucial problem: PET scans are currently expensive and require radioactive substances, which poses both financial and health challenges.

Entering the European market

The startup is currently in the final regulatory approval phase for its software platform. Once this is complete, it will enter both the European and US markets later this year.
