Vattenfall has entered into a joint venture with Mets\u00e4hallitus to build and operate Finland’s first large offshore wind farm. Planned off Finland’s west coast off Korsn\u00e4s, the project will have a capacity of 1.3 GW and a potential annual production of 5 TWh. “Vattenfall is recognised developer of offshore wind power in Europe. We are pleased to have been selected to develop Finland’s first large-scale offshore wind farm at sea,” the company said in a press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The estimated investment value of the project comes to around 2 to 3 billion Euros. The wind farm is expected to be operational by 2030. Once Korsn\u00e4s wind farm is operational, it will produce renewable energy equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 2 million flats or the annual consumption of about 250,000 electricity-heated individual homes in Finland.<\/p>\n\n\n

Vattenfall is starting a pilot whereby an offshore wind turbine produces green fuel that can then be piped to land. <\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n

We are convinced that this project will benefit the people of Korsn\u00e4s, the economic zone around Vaasa and the Finnish government,” says Juha S.
