The company will invest \u20ac60 million in the construction of its first production facility, called \u201cPlant One\u201d. Half of this sum comes from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eib.org\/en\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European Investment Bank<\/a> loan facility.  InnovFin Energy &#8211; funded by the EU\u2019s research &amp; innovation framework program &#8211; is supporting the investment, writes the company in a <a href=\"https:\/\/leyden-jar.com\/leydenjar-secures-eu-backing-in-financing-of-new-battery-factory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"io-block io-block__expanded-box\"><summary class=\"expanded-box__header\">Why we write about this topic:<\/summary><div>  <p class=\"expanded-box__content\">In the shift towards a greener economy, batteries are as relevant as windmills and solar panels, even more on the geopolitical level. <\/p><\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rest of the financing comes from LeydenJar\u2019s client projects, earlier committed grants, and the Series A investment round in 2021. Noord-Brabant region will be home to the factory, which should be fully operational by 2026. The aim of the plant is to prepare the silicon anode foil for mass production, subsequently bringing down the cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Industrialization<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Founder and CEO of LeydenJar Christian Rood, commented: \u201cBuilding an anode factory in the Netherlands is a very rare feat. We are very happy that, together with our clients, we will now scale our unique technology. We work with big players in the consumer electronics and automotive industries and Plant One will allow us to integrate our production platform with giga-factories. The end goal is to become the world\u2019s best producer of silicon anodes, to produce batteries with the highest energy density in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2021, LeydenJar already obtained <a href=\"https:\/\/innovationorigins.com\/en\/selected\/leydenjar-technologies-raises-22-million-euros-for-the-further-development-of-a-sustainable-super-battery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u20ac22 million<\/a> in funding, and now the EU-backed \u20ac30 million loan from the EIB will support the company\u2019s industrialization. When cordless electronics could only be used for flashlights, walkie-talkies, and some military equipment? <\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Higher energy density <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company\u2019s new silicon anode technology enables significantly increased energy density in lithium-ion batteries, which in turn makes batteries smaller and more powerful and opens up new possibilities for e-vehicles. LeydenJar has demonstrated the production of its anode material at promising specifications at the pilot plant scale. Now, the EIB\u2019s financing will help it to develop and install a set of larger machines to demonstrate the first-of-its-kind production of the anode material at an industrial scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe possibilities with this new step in battery technology are endless,\u201d added EIB vice-president Kris Peeters. \u201cIn the fight against climate change, renewable energy, and energy efficiency alone are not going to cut it. One, often overlooked, area, where huge gains can still be made, is the innovation of critical technology. LeydenJar has taken up that gauntlet and the EIB is very proud to support this scaling up of very promising technology.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Emissions cutting <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LeydenJar\u2019s innovative silicon anode foil allows batteries to store 70 percent more energy than the currently common graphite anode foil while being extremely thin. The company is working with partners to apply the technology in next-generation consumer electronics, electronic vehicles, and e-flight applications.
