Luckily, there is extensive research being done about the disease, slowly changing the way we approach and treat various types of tumors. This discovery is a great example of that. That&#8217;s why Innovation Origins selected this article. <\/p><\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers at ETH Zurich use magnetic bacteria to fight cancerous tumours. They have now found a way for these microorganisms to effectively cross blood vessel walls and subsequently colonise a tumor, writes the university in a <a href=\"https:\/\/ethz.ch\/en\/news-and-events\/eth-news\/news\/2022\/10\/fighting-tumours-with-magnetic-bacteria.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scientists around the world are researching how anti-cancer drugs can most efficiently reach the tumours they target. One possibility is to use modified bacteria as \u201cferries\u201d to carry the drugs through the bloodstream to the tumours. Researchers at ETH Zurich have now succeeded in controlling certain bacteria so that they can effectively cross the blood vessel wall and infiltrate tumour tissue.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"vlp-link-container vlp-layout-basic wp-block-visual-link-preview-link advgb-dyn-b6865ce2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/innovationorigins.com\/en\/cancer-treatment-of-the-future-will-outsmart-tumors\/\" class=\"vlp-link\" title=\"Cancer treatment of the future will outsmart tumors - Innovation Origins\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><div class=\"vlp-layout-zone-side\"><div class=\"vlp-block-2 vlp-link-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.innovationorigins.com\/2020\/10\/RASKERART_IO_cancer_cure_10_10_20-1.jpg\" style=\"max-width: 150px; max-height: 150px\" \/><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vlp-layout-zone-main\"><div class=\"vlp-block-0 vlp-link-title\">Cancer treatment of the future will outsmart tumors &#8211; Innovation Origins<\/div><div class=\"vlp-block-1 vlp-link-summary\">Dutch university medical centers are delving into molecular diagnostics and targeted treaments to deter early-onset cancer.<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bacterial cancer therapy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In cell cultures and mice, Simone Sch\u00fcrle and her team have now shown that a rotating magnetic field applied to the tumor improves the bacteria\u2019s ability to cross the vascular wall near the cancerous growth. With the help of experiments and computer simulations, the ETH Zurich researchers were able to show that propelling the bacteria using a rotating magnetic field is effective for three reasons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, propulsion via a rotating magnetic field is ten times more powerful than propulsion via a static magnetic field. The latter merely sets the direction and the bacteria have to move under their power. The second and most critical reason is that bacteria driven by the rotating magnetic field are constantly in motion, traveling along the vascular wall. This makes them more likely to encounter the gaps that briefly open between vessel wall cells compared to other propulsion types, in which the bacteria\u2019s motion is less explorative. And third, unlike other methods, the bacteria do not need to be tracked via imaging.
