Because of their small weight, they work great on electronic devices. They are also used more and more in the automotive industry (electric cars), as energy storage, and even in aviation. As a result, the demand is constantly increasing. Resources needed for these cells are not widely accessible, though. Therefore, you need to look for alternatives, writes Warsaw University of Technology in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pw.edu.pl\/engpw\/News\/Researchers-want-to-improve-battery-performance\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Calcium and magnesium instead of lithium<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Polish and Slovenian researchers have decided to explore the potential of metal-organic batteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We want to improve the properties of next-generation cells that are based on calcium and magnesium ions and an organic cathode,&#8221; explained Prof. W\u0142adys\u0142aw Wieczorek from the Faculty of Chemistry, project manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The weak dissociation of salts of such metals is a challenge for the researchers. This means that these salts are not sufficiently soluble in the organic solvent to produce enough electrical conductivity, producing sufficiently efficient cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, researchers have found a solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Something must be added<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We intend to apply electrolyte additives,&#8221; explains Prof. W\u0142adys\u0142aw Wieczorek. &#8220;In the first stage, these will be commercial additives. By doing this, we want to investigate how various functional groups affect how cells function.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The data obtained from the research and the results of theoretical calculations will then be used to synthesize the already specially designed additives. The researchers also plan to develop new organic cathode materials \u2013 of high energy and capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This, we believe, will allow us to achieve metal deposition\/dispersion efficiency above 99 percent and will significantly increase the number of discharge\/charging cycles possible,&#8221; adds Maciej Marczewski, PhD, Eng., leader of the tasks to be carried out by the Polish side.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"vlp-link-container vlp-layout-basic wp-block-visual-link-preview-link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ioplus.nl\/archive\/en\/manufacturer-of-battery-packs-eleo-seizes-the-opportunity-that-3d-printing-has-to-offer\/\" class=\"vlp-link\" title=\"Manufacturer of battery packs ELEO, seizes the opportunity that 3D printing has to offer\"><\/a><div class=\"vlp-layout-zone-side\"><div class=\"vlp-block-2 vlp-link-image\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vlp-layout-zone-main\"><div class=\"vlp-block-0 vlp-link-title\">Manufacturer of battery packs ELEO, seizes the opportunity that 3D printing has to offer<\/div><div class=\"vlp-block-1 vlp-link-summary\">Scale-up ELEO explicitly uses 3D printing to accelerate its development process.
