A consortium of 21 technology developers, shipping companies, shipyards, suppliers, laboratories, universities of applied sciences, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rug.nl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of Groningen<\/a> is receiving a first European grant of 1.4 million euros to support these developments, so <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conoship.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/220713-Press-release-Northern-Dutch-maritime-industry-becomes-global-player-green-ships_def.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Conoship in a press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cGreen Maritime Coalition\u201d, initiated by the Groninger Maritime Board and Conoship International, is planning to lead the way in the transition to large-scale zero-emission shipping and digital shipbuilding. This process aims at industrial development and application of techniques such as hydrogen propulsion, VentiFoil-wind propulsion, Redox Flow full electric propulsion, Ship Based Carbon Capture, and Storage, and robotization of production processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"eConowind-unit van CONOSHIP is genomineerd voor de Maritime Innovation Award 2019!\" width=\"1290\" height=\"726\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/P5zcZoMSiy4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption>The eConowind-unit is integrated in a 40 ft container from which two folding VentiFoils can be deployed: ridged aspirated wing profiles acting as sails. The VentiFoils are designed as optimal compact (non-rotating) wing profiles, creating superior thrust by means of the principle of boundary-layer-suction, for which ventilators are mounted in the VentiFoils.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Green maritime coalition<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe energy transition provides the innovative Northern Dutch maritime industry great opportunities to become a global player in developing and delivering \u201cgreen\u201d technologies for clean shipping,\u201d says Guus van der Bles, Director Development of Conoship International. \u201cCooperation between technology developers, shipbuilders, ship-owners, and knowledge institutes is essential for this, in combination with robotization of ship-production to build the innovative zero-emission ships in the Northern Netherlands. In the coming years, this industry will direct and make the transition to sustainable shipping. I am pleased that this challenge is being taken up in a unique collaboration between business and knowledge institutions.
