From a replacement for disposable cups to medically prescribed music lists: this year start-ups will once again test their latest innovations during the Eurosonic Noorderslag festival in The Netherlands. Promising European artists will present themselves to a larger audience during the event and there will also be plenty of attention for innovation.\u00a0Due to the corona measures, the Groningen showcase festival is taking place online.<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
ESNS is one of the founding partners of Innofest. Each year, innovative entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to test their products so that they can improve them further. Five start-ups selected by the ESNS and Innofest will test a prototype of their innovative product together with the crew and panel members of the festival over the coming week. These range from a smart disposable cup, and a chair cushion with sensors to relieve pain in people suffering from dementia, to medically recommended music lists and a monitor for a safe indoor climate. The online visitors of ESNS can also learn more about online safety by playing a game in which they step into the shoes of a hacker.

The entrepreneurs will get to test their innovations from now until Friday, 21 January. Read more about the different start-ups and the innovations they will be testing below.

Cuppa: no-nonsense oplossingen voor wegwerpbekers<\/strong>
Cuppa<\/a>\u00a0has designed a refundable deposit system that it wants to use in the catering industry. This might, for example, replace the use of disposable cups. With this innovation, the start-up wants to make the general public more aware of the impact of our collective consumer behaviour and offer no-nonsense solutions that everyone can use. At ESNS, they will test whether people are open to their system.

<\/a>E-motion chair: improving the quality of life for the elderly<\/strong>
Pain is one of the most common complaints that people with dementia experience. Unfortunately, this is often difficult to recognise, as it is difficult for someone with dementia to express themselves properly. The E-motion chair is a chair cushion equipped with smart sensors that recognise discomfort, stress and other factors that may signal a need for assistance. As soon as the cushion detects these signals, care providers receive a notification on their phone. During ESNS, the entrepreneurs want to find out whether the cushion works as it should.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

MUTE: connecting healthcare and music<\/strong>
MUTE<\/a> is an app that creates unique playlists with both existing and new music. By connecting knowledge from the medical field together with the use of music, the start-up believes that it is possible to understand emotion better and track its impact on people more effectively. This means that the software application can be used as a medical aid. During ESNS, the entrepreneurs want to find out what the impact of app is on the people who use it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2MenSolutions: a safe indoor climate by monitoring air quality<\/strong>
Poor air quality can adversely affect health and the ability to concentrate. By recording the air quality and measuring carbon dioxide, it is possible to prevent a lot of harm, according to the 2MenSolutions<\/a> start-up. 2MenSolutions monitors people in a specific area over a period of time, which gives events in venues the ability to recognize patterns and trends. By doing that, they hope to create a safer and healthier environment. They will test their system during ESNS to see if it is usable and works accurately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You Will Be Hacked: walk in the shoes of a hacker<\/strong>
With their game, the start-up adtac<\/a>\u00a0aims to raise the digital resilience of people. According to the makers, cybercrime and malware are a growing social problem that everyone in the digital society will encounter at some point. Through the medium of a short game in which players join a hacker collective, they hope that players will learn to recognize situations in which they need to be on their guard.
