This Sunday, it\u2019s Daan Kersten\u2018s turn.<\/em><span id=\"more-70909\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>By\u00a0Daan Kersten<\/strong><span id=\"more-76940\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ioplus.nl\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/SU-Daan-Kersten.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-69056\" src=\"https:\/\/ioplus.nl\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/SU-Daan-Kersten.jpg\" alt=\"SU Daan Kersten\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I write this column overlooking the Pacific in Venice Beach and feel chased by Bart who asks me for the text. Since this wonderful place on earth is lagging 9 hours behind Eindhoven, I imagine myself in the luxury of time. <span lang=\"EN-GB\">It\u2019s ten degrees warmer than in Eindhoven and the <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">weather forecast <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">for tomorrow <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">is<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> even better.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The expansion of our fast growing <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">company<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> in the United States brings me in California. With its extensive\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">aeronautical<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> and especially <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">space<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> cluster<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">,<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-GB\">Los Angeles is the place where we are challenged to continue scaling <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">our 3D metal printing technology. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">So the rocket engines <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">of tomorrow will become better and cheaper.<\/span>The exploration\u00a0of new planets and organizing space travel is approaching fast and startups with great ambitions are all around us, following the example of inspiring entrepreneurs like Elon Musk of SpaceX \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/innovationorigins.com\/en\/tomorrow-is-good-daan-kersten-elon-musks-plan-b\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=nl&amp;q=https:\/\/innovationorigins.com\/en\/tomorrow-is-good-daan-kersten-elon-musks-plan-b\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1482091629772000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH-W79r398yRATgbvzlwnZmc2NwOw\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">about whom I wrote before<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 and Jeff Bezos of Amazon.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>In the car with our future business partner, he asked me about\u00a0my ambitions for the future of our company. <span lang=\"EN-GB\">I replied that we want to be <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">the global leader <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">in the field of industrial metal 3D printing. <\/span>That was not the answer he was looking for. <span lang=\"EN-GB\">He wanted to know to what value we would want\u00a0to <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">grow<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> our company. <\/span>\u201cNo idea,\u201d I said, because we are not really aiming at that kind of value. <span lang=\"EN-GB\">We mainly want to serve our customers <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">best and by doing so grow and build a flourishing <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">business. Both my co-founder Jonas <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">and<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> I come from a family business. <\/span>That might be one of the reasons that we are more focused on the long term. <span lang=\"EN-GB\">Also,\u00a0this is <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">likely<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> a more European style of doing business. How different <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">is it <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">in the US where you start a company to sell it, and success is defined in terms of business valuation.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Wouldn\u2019t it be wonderful if our company could grow into a beautiful industrial company that offers an inspiring\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">work-<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">environment for many talented young and older people? And wouldn\u2019t it be super cool if <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Jonas<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u2019 and my children could take over the baton one day, if\u00a0they would have<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> the <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">ambition and abilities? Isn<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">t\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">continuously\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">building a business for the next generation a much <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">loftier<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> ambition than quickly selling your shares and\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">accidentally<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-GB\">charging your bank account?<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Gazing over the Pacific waves, Eindhoven<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-GB\">lures <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">again<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> \u2013 even despite the beautiful weather, the palm trees and nice temperature. I will see my <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">children and<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> can resume the work with our rapidly growing team, in order to fulfil\u00a0our long-term ambitions. <\/span>With our exponential technology, we will make tomorrow better; many many tomorrows hopefully.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tomorrow is good.
