Next Sunday we start the series, and we will continue as long as the enthusiasm with both\u00a0writers and readers remains. \u00a0All four are &#8211; in addition to their &#8216;normal&#8217; groundbreaking work &#8211; linked to the Singularity University Hub Netherlands, which was opened at Strijp-S by Queen Maxima early this summer.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ioplus.nl\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/tomorrow-is-good-logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-69061\" src=\"https:\/\/ioplus.nl\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/tomorrow-is-good-logo.png\" alt=\"tomorrow is good logo\" width=\"240\" height=\"396\" \/><\/a>The central denominator of the columnists is &#8220;<em><strong>Tomorrow is Good<\/strong><\/em>&#8220;, in the style of Singularity itself, an organization that focuses on spreading knowledge about technologies that can provide solutions to the problems of our time. The four columnists\u00a0are\u00a0&#8220;faculty&#8221; attached to the Dutch branch of Singularity.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/innovationorigins.com\/en\/?s=singularity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Read more about Singularity in the Netherlands<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On 12 and 13 September, the first summit of Singularity in the Netherlands will take place. Of course Steinbuch, Kersten, Van de Weijer and Engelen\u00a0are on the speakers&#8217; list\u00a0&#8211; together with 17 other &#8220;forward thinkers&#8221;.\u00a0They will explain\u00a0their audience (consisting of about a thousand top managers) what\u00a0the great developments of the next few years will look like in their respective fields of research. Exactly what they will do for E52.<\/p>\n<p><em>Lucien Engelen is the first to take the pen. In his first column, next Sunday, he talks about the time\u00a0the four of them spent this summer at the Singularity headquarters in California.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Let&#8217;s introduce Lucien Engelen, Carlo van de Weijer, Maarten Steinbuch and Daan Kersten:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ioplus.nl\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/SU-Lucien-Engelen.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-69058\" src=\"https:\/\/ioplus.nl\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/SU-Lucien-Engelen.jpg\" alt=\"SU Lucien Engelen\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Lucien Engelen<\/strong> has worked since 2007 at the Radboud University Medical Center Nijmegen as Head of the regional emergency healthcare network and advisory to the Executive Board on the (needed) changes of healthcare enhancing the participation of the patients and their informal care in their own disease, working towards raising the level of participation in Health(care), research and education. He is founding Director of the\u00a0RadboudUMC REshape Center, that acts on the convergence of technology and patient empowerment. Creating breakthrough programs, foresights and products if industry lacks progression itself.\u00a0Lucien has been faculty at <a href=\"https:\/\/exponential.singularityu.org\/medicine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Exponential Medicine<\/a> since 2011.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ioplus.nl\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/SU-Carlo-van-de-Weijer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-69057\" src=\"https:\/\/ioplus.nl\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/SU-Carlo-van-de-Weijer.jpg\" alt=\"SU Carlo van de Weijer\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Carlo van de Weijer<\/strong> has a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Technology in Eindhoven and a PhD degree from Technical University in Graz. He started his career in 1990 at TNO Automotive, moved to SiemensVDO in 2001 to head the Eindhoven automotive navigation development lab, since 2007 part of TomTom. Currently Dr. van de Weijer is VP for Intelligent Transport Systems within TomTom and part-time director of the Strategic Area Smart Mobility at Eindhoven University of Technology. He is, amongst others, member of the board of ITS Netherlands and AutomotiveNL.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ioplus.nl\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/SU-Steinbuch.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-69055\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.ioplus.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/SU-Steinbuch-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"SU Steinbuch\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Maarten<\/strong> <strong>Steinbuch<\/strong>\u00a0is professor in Systems- and Control at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU\/e). He\u00a0received the M.Sc. and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dl.dropboxusercontent.com\/u\/2840888\/TR-diss-1772.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PhD<\/a> degrees from Delft University of Technology, in 1984 and 1989 resp. From 1987-1998 he was with Philips Research and from 1998-1999 with Philips CFT. Since 1999 he is full professor of the Control Systems Technology group of the Mechanical Engineering Department of Eindhoven University of Technology.\u00a0In 2003, 2005, 2008 and 2015 he obtained the \u2018Best-Teacher\u2019 award of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, TU\/e. In 2008 as well as in 2014 his research group obtained the QANU excellence rating [5555]. His research interests are design\u00a0and control of motion systems, robotics, automotive powertrains and of fusion plasmas. In 2013 he was appointed\u00a0Distinguished University Professor at TU\/e. In 2015 Maarten received\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/steinbuch.wordpress.com\/2015\/02\/16\/maarten-steinbuch-wint-kivi-academic-society-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KIVI Academic Society Award.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ioplus.nl\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/SU-Daan-Kersten.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-69056\" src=\"https:\/\/ioplus.nl\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/SU-Daan-Kersten.jpg\" alt=\"SU Daan Kersten\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Coming from a family of cigar makers, industrial entrepreneurship has stolen <strong>Daan\u00a0Kersten<\/strong>&#8216;s\u00a0heart at young age. Master degrees in both mechanical engineering and business administration have created a solid basis for his\u00a0professional career and multiple ventures. His\u00a0experience ranges from strategy development &amp; implementation, industrial marketing &amp; sales, global (out)sourcing, open innovation and internationalisation in the automotive and (high tech) manufacturing industry. Kersten is\u00a0a serial entrepreneur and excels in out-of-the-box thinking, opportunity scouting, business modelling and execution with a signature consisting of pragmatism, enthusiasm, perseverance and cost-consciousness.
