Flights are canceled or subject to long delays. Eindhoven Airport faces fog problems more often than other airports due to outdated technology. A new Instrument Landing System (ILS) would offer a solution, but it will not be available until 2027. This system makes landing in dense fog possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dense fog causes significant disruptions at airports in the Netherlands, including Eindhoven Airport and Rotterdam The Hague Airport. Fog led to flight cancellations and delays, leaving travelers confused. KNMI had issued code yellow for the south of the Netherlands because of poor visibility, which was less than 200 meters in some places.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"vlp-link-container vlp-layout-basic wp-block-visual-link-preview-link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ioplus.nl\/archive\/en\/world-first-at-schiphol-airport-tests-the-first-hydrogen-gpu\/\" class=\"vlp-link\" title=\"World first at Schiphol: airport tests the first hydrogen GPU\"><\/a><div class=\"vlp-layout-zone-side\"><div class=\"vlp-block-2 vlp-link-image\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vlp-layout-zone-main\"><div class=\"vlp-block-0 vlp-link-title\">World first at Schiphol: airport tests the first hydrogen GPU<\/div><div class=\"vlp-block-1 vlp-link-summary\">Schiphol is conducting tests with the airport&#8217;s first hydrogen-powered Ground Power Unit (GPU).<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Problems in Eindhoven<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At Eindhoven Airport, problems due to fog are more common than at some other airports. This is because landing and takeoff requirements are more stringent there. Eindhoven is also more often hampered by fog than other Dutch airports because the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensie.nl\/actueel\/nieuws\/2024\/05\/30\/vernieuwing-vliegbasis-eindhoven-in-2027-van-start#:~:text=De%20start%2D%20en%20landingsbaan%20van,5%20maanden%20niet%20worden%20gevlogen.\">Instrument Landing System (ILS)<\/a> here is Category 1, while other airports often have a Category 3 system. This is a radio navigation system for landing in visibility as low as 50 meters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is hope for improvement. Plans to implement a more advanced system, an upgrade to ILS, during the runway renovation in 2027 are underway.
