The highways, offices, trains, and classrooms are slowly filling up again. We are returning from vacation. Flying is (still) a prevalent form of transportation, CBS figures showed this week<\/a>. In the second quarter of 2024, 20 million passengers traveled to and from the five main Dutch airports, an increase of nearly 6 percent over the previous year. Albert Jan also returned from vacation and made this fitting cartoon to accompany that article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IO On Stage: Fred Bakker x Aafke Eppinga<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We have been active the past few weeks. For example, you can now buy tickets for our first IO On Stage event. During these events, one of our editors interviews an exciting scientist, entrepreneur, or expert. On Sept. 12, I kick off with an interview with Fred Bakker<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He released his book “Unleashing the Power of European Innovation” earlier this year. In it, Bakker discusses what sets Europe apart in the race for technological progress. Central to his analysis is “sharing brainpower,” a uniquely European approach emphasizing cooperation between government, industry, and science. Bakker argues that this cooperative strategy is not only Europe’s greatest strength but also a model that can influence the future of global innovation. IO x Jakajima: Agrifood Innovation Event 2024<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Registration for our Agrifood Innovation Event<\/a> is also open. On December 3, we will host our first event together with Jakajima. It will be a full-day program with two main topics: Beyond 3D Food Printing and Vertical Farming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week, we already published this article about TNO and DFPI,<\/a> who are leading the way in personalized food with the ‘Imagine’ consortium. The technology has been tested in a container at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven, producing ‘Nutri-Bites’ tailored to soldiers’ individual health profiles for optimal well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
