These companies will work on the expansion of the electricity grid in the coming years. The contract has a value of 2.5 billion euros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The construction companies will focus mainly on preparing sites for construction, building temporary access roads to mast locations, placing foundations for more than fifteen hundred masts and restoring the landscape after the work is completed. This work is taking place both before and after the reinforcement of existing high-voltage lines and the construction of new connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TenneT stresses that in the future, high-voltage lines must be able to carry at least 30 percent more electricity to avoid bottlenecks. Over the next ten years, 600 kilometers of existing high-voltage lines will be reinforced, and about 400 kilometers of new lines will be constructed.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"vlp-link-container vlp-layout-basic wp-block-visual-link-preview-link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ioplus.nl\/archive\/en\/tennet-invests-e4-6-billion-in-power-grid-and-combats-net-congestion\/\" class=\"vlp-link\" title=\"TenneT invests \u20ac4.6 billion in power grid and combats net congestion\"><\/a><div class=\"vlp-layout-zone-side\"><div class=\"vlp-block-2 vlp-link-image\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vlp-layout-zone-main\"><div class=\"vlp-block-0 vlp-link-title\">TenneT invests \u20ac4.6 billion in power grid and combats net congestion<\/div><div class=\"vlp-block-1 vlp-link-summary\">Grid operator TenneT is pushing ahead with grid expansion and maintenance with investments of \u20ac4.6 billion in the first six months of 2024. <\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strengthening the grid<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the coming years, Tennet plans to make significant investments in the electricity grid, which is currently overloaded. One problem with the current grid is the increase in energy generation by offshore wind turbines, while the infrastructure is inadequate to route all that generated energy to the necessary destinations.
