We have said it a hundred times, and we will continue to say it: in the puzzle of our new energy system, balancing supply and demand for energy is the biggest challenge. Batteries are part of the solution. At IO, we pay attention to them almost daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, batteries do not last a lifetime. So as their numbers increase, so do concerns about disposing of discarded ones. Not only because of the limited availability of raw materials but especially because battery waste deserves another chance, initiatives have sprung up around the world to encourage reuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The passport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Albert Jan’s eye caught one such initiative:\u00a0the battery passport<\/a>\u00a0that will be mandatory in the European Union in three years. From February 2027, every new EV and industrial battery in the EU must have this digital identity. It is a step to ensure that batteries perform well, are recyclable, and are environmentally friendly. This digital profile contains essential data such as the battery’s unique serial number, production date, type, chemical composition, manufacturer data, and performance data. The QR code ensures that all this information is easily accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
