When lightning strikes water, then water has a temporary disinfecting effect. Even rain during a thunderstorm has this short-lived effect. Start-up <a href=\"https:\/\/innovationorigins.com\/en\/vitalfluid-harnesses-lightning-to-protect-crops\/\">VitalFluid<\/a> mimics this natural phenomenon. By further refining the technology that was developed at Eindhoven University of Technology, validating it, and bringing it to the market, the company is working on a novel and sustainable method for fertilization.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This effort now gets support from the National Growth Fund, which spends a budget of 6.6 million Euros on developing plasma as a platform technology, aimed at enhancing sustainable food production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This subsidy supports the development of plasma technology within the Plasma4Agrifood project. The project is part of the broader\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/agrifood-nxtgenhightech\/\">Agrifood NXTGEN Hightech<\/a>\u00a0program. Plasma4Agrifood consists of a collaboration between\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/royal-agrifirm-group\/\">Royal Agrifirm Group<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/eindhoven-university-of-technology\/\">Eindhoven University of Technology<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/blue-plasma\/\">Blue Plasma<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/n2applied\/\">N2 Applied<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/vitalfluid\/\">VitalFluid<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.ioplus.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/VitalFluid-team.jpeg\" alt=\"Henk Aarts, N2-Applied, Paul Leenders, VitalFluid, Thuur van Onzen, Blue Plasma, Harm Waterborg, Blue Plasma, Guus Pemen, TU Eindhoven, Kees Overheul, Agrifirm.\" class=\"wp-image-467931\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Henk Aarts, N2-Applied, Paul Leenders, VitalFluid, Thuur van Onzen, Blue Plasma, Harm Waterborg, Blue Plasma, Guus Pemen, TU Eindhoven, Kees Overheul, Agrifirm.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Within the project, four applications of plasma technology are being further developed, tested and validated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sustainable nitrogen fixation for crop cultivation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Air treatment in livestock barns<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Manure treatment to reduce ammonia and methane emissions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sustainable alternative for crop protection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The objective of this project is to showcase the benefits of plasma technology and demonstrate how it can be employed to enhance the productivity and sustainability of food production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project is made possible in part by a contribution from the National Growth Fund program&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/nxtgen-hightech\/\">NXTGEN Hightech<\/a>. This program will invest as much as \u20ac 1 billion until 2030 with over 330 partners, in more than 60 projects and in six essential domains.
