Protyon is a Dutch health tech spin-out of <a href=\"http:\/\/rug.nl\">Groningen University<\/a> and its medical center (<a href=\"http:\/\/umcg.nl\">UMCG<\/a>) that develops predictive software based on computational molecular modeling and artificial intelligence (AI) to support patient-specific decision-making in the treatment of lung cancer.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Protyon will use this latest investment to build out the technology and develop a SaaS model. \u201cWe aim to empower the clinical decision-making process by providing an automated molecular modeling tool to assess the treatment efficacy on an individual level,\u201d said\u00a0Rositsa Jordanova, founding partner and CEO of Protyon.\u00a0\u201cOur digital solution is guiding clinicians to choose the best available therapy and enhance the quality of life of lung cancer patients,\u201d Jordanova said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Computational molecular modeling mimics the behavior of molecules in a computer and is already used in advanced medical approaches such as drug design for individualized treatment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStructural biology has been a potent tool in the generation of new drugs, but surprisingly this same information has not been used in a clinical setting,\u201d said Matthew Groves, Protyon\u2019s chief science officer. \u201cHowever, the use of knowledge on how mutations impact drug targets on the molecular level has a huge potential impact on treatment choices.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In contrast to existing applications focusing on chemical exploration, Protyon\u2019s application of molecular modeling to guided cancer therapy is novel. \u201cThe unprecedented predictive power of our solution puts Protyon ahead of its competitors,\u201d Groves said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis technology has already proven to be very effective and complementary to other tools available to clinicians, and it will only improve over time,\u201d said Andy L\u00fcrling, LUMO Labs Founding Partner. \u201cAs its hardware requirements are relatively low, this technology can reach and help large numbers of patients worldwide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tumor mutation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201c<\/strong>Unfortunately, everybody knows somebody with cancer,\u201d said Annemieke Wouterse, Investment Manager at NOM. \u201cThe 3D model and algorithm of Protyon helps clinicians make the optimal decision for further medication in case of tumor mutation, enhancing patient quality of life of patients and reducing healthcare costs.
