With the new vehicle, the student cohort of the <a href=\"http:\/\/tudelft.nl\">Delft University of Technology<\/a> aims to set a new record for kilometers driven on a single tank of hydrogen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"io-block io-block__expanded-box\"><summary class=\"expanded-box__header\">Why we write about this topic:<\/summary><div>  <p class=\"expanded-box__content\">Student teams are experimenting with the technologies of the future, devoting all their efforts for a better tomorrow. <\/p><\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSetting a new world record means driving for over 2056 kilometers without refueling,\u201d told Innovation Origins Julian de Klerk, Eco-Runner\u2019s team manager. \u201cTo achieve this goal, we had to design the car differently from its predecessor,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stable for longer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Eco-Runner takes part annually in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.makethefuture.shell\/en-gb\/shell-eco-marathon\">Eco-Marathon<\/a>, a competition challenging university students to create more sustainable cars. In 2022, the Delft team won the contest, as the Eco-Runner XII was the most efficient car of the edition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this year, the team opted for developing a car that drives longer, while keeping the same levels of efficiency. \u201cDriving for so much longer while being so efficient means that several car parts need to be more robust,\u201d de Klerk emphasizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eco-Runner XIII is about to go into production. Visitors take pictures, scrutinize every little detail, sit in the driver\u2019s seat and make themselves comfortable for an imaginary journey.<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teamwork<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Eco-Marathon will take place at the end of June in France, where Delft students will compete against teams coming from all over Europe. 24 people are part of Eco-Runner, having different backgrounds and expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a team leader, de Klerk\u2019s task is also to keep everyone on board. \u201cWhat matters is agreeing on the goal we want to achieve as a team at the beginning of the year. From there, everyone has a target to work for,\u201d he explains.
