The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltanlaboratories.org\/events\/frankenstein-symposium\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Frankenstein Symposium<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which it will co-present with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/robotlove.nl\/en\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Robot Love<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at this year\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ddw.nl\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dutch Design Week<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, will be a fitting celebration of Baltan\u2019s decade-long record of connecting the high-tech community with the creative community \u2013 in Eindhoven and internationally. <\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_155734\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-155734\" style=\"width: 131px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ioplus.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-14-at-09.07.07.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-155734 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.ioplus.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-14-at-09.07.07-131x150.png\" alt=\"olga Mink, Baltan\" width=\"131\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-155734\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Olga Mink<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Olga Mink, director of Baltan Laboratories, expects that the next ten years of the organisation\u2019s existence will reflect a new mode of societal thinking about technology. \u201cEindhoven is a maker city. There are many manufacturing companies, and the city has been thriving on this industry. Mail us at eindhoven@innovationorigins.com.[\/box]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She cautions that the future world of innovation will require us to design technological tools differently, and will be an environment in which well-informed decisions are essential. \u201cPeople are highly skilled and specialised in their fields, but we don\u2019t know how to communicate with each other anymore. It is a dead end when there is no cross-pollination between different domains.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mink says that Baltan Laboratories aims to bridge the gap between domains, organisations and people by employing a human and artistic approach, using freedom of experimentation, to bring about needed systemic change. In this regard, Baltan\u2019s research and development projects have touched on three overlapping themes: The first is social innovation, focused on developing new perspectives through cross-cultural cooperation; the second theme is Economia, which researches alternative economic and human transactions; and the third is the relationship between the body and (wearable) technology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>See also: <a href=\"https:\/\/innovationorigins.com\/economia-festival-by-baltan-new-views-on-old-models\/\">Economia festival by Baltan: New views on old models<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Frankenstein Symposium, scheduled for 22 October 2018, will be a full-day programme of lectures, performances, debate and an expo, devoted to the theme of how humans and technology will co-exist in the future and will challenge participants to rethink the ethics of emerging technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mink says: \u201cThe story of Frankenstein, written 200 years ago, fittingly reflects the consequences of our lack of foresight and of not taking responsibility for our own creations \u2013 a topic that is also becoming relevant in times of rapid technological development in, for instance, AI, machine learning and biotechnology.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Age of Wonderland, which was a four-year international exchange programme, and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltanlaboratories.org\/library\/new-publication-economia-methods-for-reclaiming-economy\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Economia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, provocatively described as an economic festival without the economists, have been some of the previous projects produced by Baltan from its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.natlab.nl\/informatie\/Historie_Natlab\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Natlab<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-based studios.
