Eindhoven already has Europe\u2019s largest fleet of electric buses. The city also expects that the goal of having all buses within the city emission-free by 2020 will be met. \u201cBut in order to ban all fossil fuel from public transport in the Brainport Eindhoven region, a little help from the EU is needed\u201d mayor John Jorritsma says. Next week, at the <\/span>Smart City Expo World Congress<\/span><\/a> in Barcelona, he will ask Europa for extra support. \u201cTo connect the entire daily urban system by 2025, European investment on research in battery storage capacity can really help to increase the range of the electric buses. This will truly give a boost to banning fossil fuels from public transport in Europe.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A delegation of tech companies, startups and public officials from Brainport Eindhoven, headed by John Jorritsma, Mayor of Eindhoven and Brainport Chairman, team up for a joint Smart City mission in Barcelona from 14 to 16 November 2017. There they will discuss the progress of Smart City initiatives with other leading EU cities, showcase Smart City solutions at the world\u2019s biggest Smart City exhibition, address challenges of implementing Smart City plans and meet key officials of cities around the globe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Triangulum <\/b><\/p>\n

Eindhoven is one of the three lighthouse cities for Smart City initiatives in the EU project <\/span>Triangulum<\/span><\/a>, alongside Manchester and Stavanger. Each of them has designated districts that serve as large-scale demonstrators, such as Strijp-S and Eckhart-Vaartbroek in Eindhoven. The aim of the project is to upscale Smart City initiatives at first to follower cities Sabadell, Prague, and Leipzig. The city leaders are invited on Tuesday 14 November by the Mayor of Sabadell, an industrial city adjacent to Barcelona, to discuss the next steps to be taken to implement their Smart City plans. <\/span><\/p>\n

Prominent position <\/b><\/p>\n

Brainport Eindhoven will join the official booth of the Netherlands from Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 November at the <\/span>Smart City Expo World Congress<\/span><\/a>. Positioned between Japan, New York City and the European Commission, they will showcase Dutch solutions for global challenges on Mobility, Energy, Safety, Health, and Circularity. Brainport Eindhoven companies <\/span>ATeam<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Atos<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Axis<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Philips Lighting<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Shinto Labs<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Sorama<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>ViNotion<\/span><\/a> will showcase their integrated projects on Smart Mobility, public safety, data processing and shared data principles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Zero-emission transport<\/b><\/p>\n

Brainport Eindhoven currently has Europe\u2019s largest electric bus fleet. The integrated, collaborative approach to zero-emission transport of the city of Eindhoven is an example to other cities. <\/span>VDL Bus & Coach<\/span><\/a> delivers the electric vehicles, <\/span>Heliox<\/span><\/a> the charging and storage systems and bus company <\/span>Bravo<\/span><\/a> handles the new routing scheme and instructs drivers.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
