Hugsy<\/a>\u00a0makes baby blankets and cuddly toys that\u00a0simulate the\u00a0parents’ smell and heartbeat. In order to further develop it and to\u00a0enable new scientific research, the Eindhoven startup is launching a Kickstarter campaign<\/a> today. Hugsy hopes to collect 40,000 euros in order to be able to start the production of the blankets and cuddly toys. In addition, the company is planning to obtain \u20ac300,000 in funding in the near future,\u00a0mostly for further research.<\/p>\n

Hugsy received\u00a0\u20ac200,000\u00a0in funding earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Hugsy ondersteunt ouders als ze met hun kindje buidelen (knuffelen met huid-op-huidcontact). Tijdens die knuffelmomenten neemt Hugsy de geur, warmte en hartslag van de ouder op. Als het kindje dan weer terug gaat in de couveuse of de wieg, blijft het dekentje de geruststellende aanwezigheid van de vader of moeder meegeven, zelfs als die er even niet zijn.<\/p>\n

Hugsy komt in twee varianten op de markt: voor het ziekenhuis en voor thuis. De thuisvariant moet dankzij de kickstarter campagne op de markt komen, de ziekenhuisvariant volgt later. Daarvoor is eerst nog verder klinisch onderzoek nodig.<\/p>\n

Hugsy begon als een studentenproject aan de faculteit Industrial Design van de TU\/e. Initiatiefneemster Sylvie Claes besloot het project samen met Jody van den Tillaart voort te zetten als echt bedrijf.
