Five million in funding for TNO spinoff SparkNano: “acceleration for solutions in sustainable energy”

Eindhoven-based SparkNano obtains a follow-on investment totaling €5.5 million. Lead investor is Air Liquide Venture Capital; other investors are Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij (BOM), Somerset Capital Partners, Invest-NL, and existing shareholders Innovation Industries and TNO. The BOM announces this in a press release.

Sustainable energy solutions

SparkNano, a TNO spin-off, develops and delivers Spatial Atomic Layer Deposition (Spatial ALD) technology with which the company contributes to accelerating sustainable energy solutions. This technology enables more efficient production of, for example, a new generation of electrolyzers for the production of green hydrogen, fuel cells, batteries, and solar cells. According to BOM, the new funding will enable SparkNano to accelerate its development towards a future in which energy is generated, stored, and converted sustainably.

In recent years, SparkNano has built and expanded its expertise in Spatial ALD technology and equipment for depositing thin films of materials, including in highly porous materials. These deposits apply atomic-scale control to both how much and where the material is located.

“At SparkNano, we are convinced that our technology can contribute to the transition to a sustainable energy future,” said Huib Heezen, CEO of SparkNano. “We are delighted that this conviction is shared by our new and existing investors,” said Heezen. In the future, Heezen is looking forward to more intense cooperation with the affiliated partners. “This cooperation, our positioning in the Brabant high-tech ecosystem, and the extensive experience and expertise in mechanical engineering and ALD technology are crucial for our product development.”
